Book: The Goddess is in the Details: Wisdom for the Everyday Witch by Deborah Blake
Format: Audio narrated by Romy Nordlinger
Rating: 4 stars
One day, I randomly googled “Wiccan blog”. One of the first hits was a blog by a woman in her mid-thirties. Just like me. She first discovered Wicca in the 1990s. Just like me. She was busy juggling a career and a little family. Just like me. In her post, she questioned the purpose of being Wiccan. Wait, what? The question caught me off guard. How do we incorporate Wicca into our every day lives? Sure, we all feel witchy on the Sabbats. But what about the rest of the year?
In The Goddess is in the Details, Deborah Blake outlines ways to incorporate being a witch into your every day life. When approached with intention, our mundane tasks can take on new meaning. Blake provides a broad overview of large variety of topics. Everything from raising children to healthy eating is touched upon in the book.
Blake’s writing style is very informal and approachable. So much so that listening to the audio book felt as though I was having a conversation with the author. The chapters are very compact and to the point. Additional resources and items to think about are listed after every chapter.
I purchased this book because it was marketed as not a “Wicca 101” book. However, I am not sure that I classify it as such. I think that it is a wonderful starting point for someone. It provides a good overview of a lot of witchy topics. I didn’t learn anything new, but I enjoyed reading it. I love the fact that the book provides references for further reading.
While this isn’t my favorite book by Deborah Blake, I would recommend it to anyone who is new to the Craft.
